[ He's not sure he really wants to go out beyond the very necessary cleaning duties, but...staying holed up in his room probably isn't the best thing for him, either.
[ Zack reads this message several times. He has to set his phone down and walk away from it for a while too before he can think of anything productive to say.
In the end, it takes a day from him to finally come back to it. ]
I prefer to have conversations like this face to face.
I'll be up on deck a few hours tonight. If you wanna talk about it, that's where I'll be.
[This was exactly why he had told Jamie he didn't want to do this. It's never that simple. It's never a simple apology. It's an apology and then it's an explanation and then people have to trade their life stories when, in reality, it should be a simple acknowledgement of fault followed by an honest agreement to not do the action again.
He considers not going, but decides that he's doing this for Jamie, if not for himself, and trudges up to the deck anyway.]
[ Zack, as it happens, is flopped on his back doing some star-gazing. There's a big black dog at his side who lifts his head and lets out a soft 'awroof' when Corvo approaches.
Zack lays a hand in his fur and looks over to see that it really is Corvo.
[ Zack notices Corvo’s reaction to the dog. If he’d know Zeke would bother the man just by being here, he wouldn’t have brought him, but…well, he can’t take it back now. ]
He’s not going to bother you. And even if he tried, I wouldn’t let him.
[ Zack puts the leash on Zeke just so Corvo can see he means it. ]
…thanks for coming. I know you probably didn’t want to.
Well, I’m not going to cook you and eat you. Or drag things out because I think you already did the most important thing. You apologized, and you respected me enough to come here even though you didn’t want to.
I appreciate that.
I don’t need to know why you did it - but I do need to know it won’t happen again. Because the last time I lost time like that, it’s because I was in a basement lab for 4 years. And it’s going to be a while before I can stop cycling through that.
Jamie doesn't have to wait long for Zack to come to the door. He is clearly nudging back a fuzzy black muzzle, and he shoos Zeke away to make room for the other to walk through.
"Hi - come on in."
Nothing has really changed from the last time Jamie came over, and Zack seems to look fine for the most parts. It's just his eyes that betray how tired he really is.
Jamie will carry the tray in with one hand and carefully close the door behind him with his foot before looking around for a place to put the tray of food. It's well stocked.
"Well, good to know you've got the best company there is, eh?"
Zack smiles a bit, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes.
"Pretty sure that was the idea when a friend of mine gave him to me."
Zeke lets out an 'awruff' in agreement, and Zack ushers Jamie over to the kitchen with the food. He doesn't have much of an appetite, honestly, but he'll still eat some of it.
"There's none who've been kinder to me since I came here," he admits honestly as he looks over at Zack, "especially in regards to Peter. I'd hate to repay that kindness with an empty hand."
