[ All wrapped up in winter clothes, the Buster in tow, Zack makes it out of the city gates fairly quickly so she doesn't have to wait very long. ]

[ He smiles a little, but it's...strained. ]

[ korra notes that strained smile, but hers is relaxed. urging naga to her feet, korra climbs into the saddle and holds a hand out for zack. ]

Hop on.

[ A ride on Naga!! Zack's smile turns just a shade brighter at that. ]

She's gonna give you a workout today, huh?

[ He takes Korra's hand, though, and up he goes. ]

Ready when you are.

[ you know, korra realizes that the question was probably rhetorical, but: ]

I haven't been able to get her out as much as she needs.

[ with that, she'll urge naga out the gates and to a path that will lead them a little ways down the mountain. though it may be almost freezing, the closer zack sits the korra the warmer he'll be. not just from body heat, either: this heat wraps around his whole body, a warm pocket of air. ]

How far out d'you wanna go?

[ Korra for best space heater!!! That's really nice, and he notices the warmth. ]

Maybe about halfway down the mountain and off the road somewhat?

[ He just doesn't want anybody to hear them. ]

How've you been, by the way?

Not bad. [ she offers zack a shrug, leading naga down the mountain. ] You?

[ sheesh, zack really wants to go all underground with this doesn't he? ]

[ Listen, when you work for a shady organization like ShinRa, you Learn Things, okay. ]

Not bad sounds about right. [ He's restless, honestly, and feels like his kicking his heels here a lot of the time. ] It's been kind of quiet lately so I keep expecting something else to happen before too long.

[ Things always go from bad to worse, you know. ]

[ tell her all about your shady past, pls. ]

Yeah, I don't like how quiet it's been.

[ a few hops down for naga and a short lope later and they've arrived at zack's requested destination; korra kicks her feet out of the stirrups. thank raava, honestly, korra's bad at small talk. ]

[ He slips off Naga easily enough and looks at Korra. ]

[ ah, now the paranoia makes sense, and korra shakes off zack's apology. ]

Don't worry about it, it's all jake. [ korra climbs off naga but sticks close for warmth, leaning against the dog's side. ] Yeah, I wanted to know what you thought.

Honestly? I like her, and a lot of what she says makes sense to me.

What I'm not sure about is trusting her wholesale or ignoring the warnings from Death's Attendants. I'm also concerned about...what would happen if any of us walked off and ditched our Courts.

I'm not sure if that's what you're planning to do, but that could have....very serious consequences. You may have thought that through already, but I just wanted to stress that before you make any decisions.

[ It's not like he has any experience with that or anything. ]

[ she had a feeling that was the answer coming, so korra nods. ]

I don't know what I'm gonna do, actually. But I do know I wanna talk to her again, at the very least.

I can understand that.

[ Of all the powers of the world he's seen so far, she seems the most invested in trying to make things better. ]

[ she shakes her head ]

Not in the next few days. I hear there's some kinda holiday coming up?

[ A pause, then- ]

I'm sorry if I haven't been much help.

[ she quickly shakes her head ]

No, don't be. I wanted your opinion because you were one of the only ones not attacking her for existing.

[ Zack shrugs. ]

As far as I could tell, she made the overture in good faith. She might be wrong but still mean well.

[ The same could be said of any of them, really. They're just not gods. ]

I'd just like to know a little more about her and how she operates.

[ ... curiously: ]

What's wrong about wanting balance?

[ Zack shakes his head. ]

It's not that wanting balance itself is wrong. I just don't know anything about how she tries to achieve that balance.

[ Well, aside from what the Emperor and Lorelai said, but that's not that same thing. ]

At the last audience, she was made out to be a terrible person, but she didn't seem that way at all so...either everyone else is lying or we just haven't seen what's so bad yet.

[ He has a hard time trusting people. Can you tell? ]

[ korra nods, lets zack finish, and then says: ]

That's why I have to join her.

[ Zack looks at her. ]

If that's what you want to do, I'm not going to stop you. This conversation stays between us and only us.
